I asked Michel Bertrand of Quebec if he could ascertain from the photographs where the
nostrils of the birds are located. He has sent me the following photos which show that
they are located high as are shown of Trumpeter Swans excellently in the American Bird Conservancy's
field guide, All the Birds of North America (lst ed.), p. 25, and also in The Sibley Guide to Birds
